Well the world seems to be slowly returning to normal and the Oscars returned to their usual format. And with that, came the fashion. And as always, I’m here to bring you the Best and the Worst! Enjoy!
THE BEST
Jessica Chastain - She looked effortlessly flawless and comfortable in this ombre Gucci gown. From the sparkling top to the ruffled bottom, this dress wowed on the red carpet. The simplistic styling is why this dress isn’t “too much.” Jessica completed the look with a high pony, Stuart Weitzman heels, and chandelier earrings. Stunning.
Nicole Kidman - Nicole knows red carpet fashion. This Armani Privé peplum gown was made in a one-of-a-kind color for Kidman. This silk faille dress looked stunning on Nicole’s tall and slender frame. While at first I thought the dress was a bit safe, the more I saw Nicole in it, the more I loved it. Jewelry by Harry Winston.
Lupita Nyong’o - Lupita was the golden girl in this Prada sequined gown with floral and fringe accents. She looked absolutely radiant and the styling of this outfit was perfection with gold make-up. She has never looked more like a leading lady.
Simu Liu - Simu wore a bright red tuxedo by Atelier Versace and bucked the typical black. He made the look pop with gold accessories including a chest-piece and Omega watch. The red made the black bowtie and patent loafers pop. Loves it.
Kristen Stewart - In head-to-toe Chanel, Kristen brought her edgy look to the red carpet. While she might be nominated for playing royalty, she proved her style power by wearing the unexpected suit with short-short and sky-high Chanel heels. She completed the look with a ruby and silver lariat necklace.
Jada Pinkett Smith- I don’t think Jada has ever looked better than in this Jean Paul Gauthier structural couture gown. The emerald color is stunning on Jada and she kept the jewelry to a minimum. Her natural make-up allows for the dress to do the speaking.
Zendaya - She turned heads for all the right reasons in this Valentino cropped original. While it’s simple, it’s also striking. We’ve seen this look before (Calista Flockhart Emmy look in 1999), but Zendaya takes it to a new level and brings the glamour with a windswept updo, To play up the sparkle, she dripped with additional Bulgari bling.
THE WORST
Serena Williams - This dusty rose Gucci accordian dress did nothing for Serena. The color washes Serena out, and the heavy black details, lace gloves and platform sandals seem too jarring against the soft pink. Too much going on, the decals, the plunging neckline, the high slit, the oversized sleeves and structural shoulder-pads. Please just make it stop.
Kourtney Kardashian - While this isn’t the worst look at the Oscars, it might be the most boring. It’s really the wrong dress for the occasion. This Mugler dress does not properly fit the celeb. I also feel her hair and make-up age her an additional 20 years. She kept the look basic with Aquazzura sandals and minimal jewelry. Yawn.
Regina Hall - Whichever stylist suggested Regina wear this on the red carpet should be fired. Not only does the color wash Hall out, but it is also jarring on the red carpet. Regina’s hair and make-up look flawless but this dress should be burned. I dislike the visible panty-lines but I do like the strappy sandals.
Billie Eilish - Billie has shown that she can WOW on the red carpet, like she has in Oscar De La Renta in the past. However, this maxi Gucci dress just swallows Billie. The volume of the ruffles does nothing for Billie. However, her hair and make-up are beautiful and I commend her for taking chances with that. However, this was her night to shine and sadly this dress doesn’t do her justice.
Maggie Gyllenhaal - This Schiaparelli couture column dress looked like Maggie had lost a bet. While it fit beautifully and Maggie’s hair and make-up are stunning, I can’t get past the unusual gold adornments. It looks like golden gum wads were stuck on to the dress. Urgh.
Wesley Snipes - This look was tragic. From the monochromatic burgundy suit - so the shorts and leggings - to the matching aviators and black clunky shoes, nothing seems to go right. It’s March - shorts certainly don’t make sense. While I like the color of the suit, I dislike the shirt and bowtie with it. You know that alot of thought went into this look, but that just makes the whole look even more sad. Can’t find the designer of the suit…shocking.
